Hi all! Quick update from the staff here at Gender Spectrum! The Gender Spectrum Lounge has recently updated our Community Guidelines. We wanted to let you all know and highlight some of the changes that have been made. Our number one priority is that the Lounge remains a safe and affirming space for all users. We have updated our Community Guidelines to ensure we are always striving to be as safe and affirming a space as possible. If you would like to review the Community Guidelines in their entirety click “Guidelines” at the top right of your screen.

A few updates and changes we wanted to highlight are below:

No posts about self-harm and/or suicide. We support and encourage Lounge users to reach out to trained professionals for help if you are in crisis and/or need support – you can find contact information for the Trevor Project and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline here. The members and moderators of the Lounge are not trained in crisis intervention and thus The Lounge is not an appropriate forum for dealing with youth in crisis. Posts containing intentions about suicide and/or self-harm will be removed by moderators. Moderators will follow up privately through message with the user in crisis to ensure they are given resources and support that is appropriate and through trained professionals. The original post will be deleted because this content is often triggering to other users and responses by other users who do not have appropriate mental health training can cause more harm than good to the person in crisis. Gender Spectrum’s Online Teen Discussion Group is meeting next Monday and throughout February!

The group is a safe space to meet other youth, hangout and talk about gender as well as the many other things that come up in life. You can join by video, audio, call-in, or use the chat box on the calls. We have an awesome facilitator and are super excited for this next group!

New Group Announcement: Gender-Inclusive Health & Sex Education

Calling all professionals! I’m happy to announce that we have created a new group in the Lounge meant to help you connect with other professionals who are making efforts to be more gender-inclusive in health and sex ed. We would love to hear from you about some of your successes, challenges, and questions when it comes to gender-inclusive sex education! This is a private group and open to professionals and service providers only.

We are working toward offering a similar group for teens & parents so please stay tuned!
